If You’re Looking For A Job, Use Google+ To Make Things Easier

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Just 3 weeks old, it has over 20 million users, and the number is rising steeply each day. Naturally, social media gurus are busy debating whether Google+ can become a real competitor to Facebook and Twitter in the long run. Digital marketers too are reshaping their strategies as they find new ways to use Google+.

Google+ expertly incorporates some of the best features of both Facebook and LinkedIn. It’s being used not just as a platform to catch up with your friends and family, but its unique “Circles” feature allows it to be used as a powerful professional social media tool as well. People are already hiring on Google+ (after all, there are 20 million potential candidates in there already), so here’s how you can use this tool to grab a share of the pie.

  • Make sure your profile is complete. All your education details, work experiences (if any), strengths, and so forth should be there for potential employers to find. Once this is done, state that you are looking for work in your status. However, you need to attract attention among a virtual ocean of updates and messages, so keep it short, sweet and interesting. And of course, don’t sound desperate! It never makes a good impression.
  • Manage your contacts with the help of Circles. Keep all your professional contacts together in separate Circles. When you post updates about your job search, see to it that Circles which contain potential employers are receiving your messages. At the same time, remember that sharing unprofessional content with your professional contacts is never wise. It’ll damage your image.

2 Ways Google+ Can Promote Your Business

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Google’s social networking platform, Google+, has still a long way to go before it makes any notable impact on netizens around the world. But, you cannot deny that it has raw power which can be harnessed to your benefit.

Almost every digital marketer, worth his salt, is very busy these days, trying to find different ways Google+ can be used to achieve business success. Officially you cannot create a business profile on Google+. But, there’s a lot of doubt, some enterprises might have already done so, trying to stay ahead of their competitors in terms of social media usage.

Google+ can help you promote your business effectively. Let’s see how -

Firstly, Google+ team has adopted a unique approach to group social connections in a particular way. This is an important feature of this social networking service. This characteristic gives Google+ users the option to maintain groups of friends, the same way they do in Facebook, but there’s also a separate group for professional contacts, like in LinkedIn. Looks like the Google+ team has tried to bring out the best of Facebook and LinkedIn, and club them together, and has achieved success in doing so. So, with Google+ you can nurture your social connections besides maintaining your business contacts.

Secondly, Google+ can be used for videoconferencing with colleagues or business partners via Hangouts. With this it scores past its competitors in the social networking arena. This is a more business-dedicated feature of Google+, but there’s more to it. In addition to the group video chats and conferences, you can also use Google Chat as an extended communication channel. It has got identical features as that of Gmail and gives you an easy option of communicating with your professional contacts.

Twitter By The Numbers…

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

About 10 years back, did we ever imagine social media would become an integral part of our lives. Definitely not!

But here we are today, excessively dependent on various social networking services, more so on Twitter. This social media platform has changed the way we look at life.

Twitter, which generates more than 200 million tweets each day, helped us bring the world at our threshold. We get up in the morning, start with our daily activities, but never forget to check our status on Twitter in between our work. If, by chance, we go to bed without posting a single tweet, we find it hard to relax and allow sleep to dominate our thoughts. Be it, “Ah, I lost my engagement ring #disgust” to “Yipee, I got the job”, we let others share a piece of our mind through this social media service, and somehow feel extremely happy in doing  so. Then you have business bosses who use Twitter to keep clients and followers updated about newer products and services being launched, trying their best to promote their organization, and it works. End of the day, everyone finds Twitter interesting and useful, something which cannot be ignored at any cost. No doubt, the number of Twitter users is increasing each day.

Today, we have got yet another wonderful infographic to give you an idea how Twitter is used by different people across the world and how big it is. So take off your thinking caps, sit back and enjoy this infographic.
